Instrument cluster light/ changed bulb still no light 200

My lighting for the instrument cluster went out the other day. I pulled it out and took care of the temp comp board (was actually working still), viewed the small odemeter gear broken and replaced the two top lights that should light the dash up. Nothing changed. All other instruments and lights are fine. ?

Off topic, will an 83 rear seat fit into an 86? Found a perfect real leather rear seat in an 83. My guess is they are a little different.

    Dimmer control? 200

You wrote that the other lights are fine.

    Verify this -
The center console lights and the shift indicator light (auto trans) are powered via the dimmer knob - and also the instrument cluster lights.

If all these are out then you can suspect the dimmer. As I recall, dimmer has only two wires: full 12V going in, and dimmed voltage going out. If you jump the two wires thus bypassing the dimmer, you'll get full power to the whole circuit which is fine.

However as the dimmer provides some voltage reduction even at it's "full" setting, you'd now be sending slightly higher voltage to all those bulbs. So instead of lasting maybe 10-15 years, they might last 3-5 years instead. Just FYI.

No changes in seats wagon to wagon or sedan to sedan. You can't swap wagon rear seats with sedan rear seats. They are very different. The wagon seat hardware changed slightly around 1986 but either type will fit.

Sometimes, the connector pads on the board get oxidized and it is necessary to twist the bulbs back and forth a few times to clean off the contacts.

When I replace those, I usually just pull the cluster out far enough to get my hand back there. Then with the lights turned on, I insert the new bulb and turn it until it lights up. Once both do, just reinstall the cluster.

The cluster lighting gets its power from the headlight switch - I think it's a brown wire. Check to see you've got voltage there when the lights are turned on.
