trip tp Carlisle 444-544

I am making the treck from Toronto to CARLISLE, about 9 1/2 hours in my 1964 PV 544. South of the border I am planning on going down I-81 to I-476. can anyone name any places (should I have the need) where I could get repairs or parts along the way. I don't plan on needing it but if you plan for it hopfully you won't need it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and I hope to see as many of you as I can there.
St

When will you be leaving? I'll be heading south from Buffalo ...expecting to leave around 11:00 am tomorrow. I'm in Williamsville so you'll go right by but in the early stages ( I live real close to the toll barrier when you get on #90 from #290 at exit #50). Hopefully nothing will break that early. But if you need me you can call 716-866-8159 (cell) anytime.

Thanks rallyvolvo. I will look at the map again, afterall I am only following Yahoo Maps and they are not foolproof.

Your probably right Cam, I guess I am subscribing to Sil's theory (if you carry the spare part you will not need it) or if you plan for it it won't happen. I do plan to bring the unique spares, generator, distributor drive gear a spare rad hose or 2 even a spare coil and voltage regulator (I found a local shop that can get new 12v ones, reasonable too) but I wasn't thinking of the overheating and the coolant in such a large quantity. Good idea.
See you there and
Keep Rolling

Hi Steve: That's the same routine I'll be taking, but 24 hours after you. I know there are some big hills as you're approaching Scranton, so suggest you carry some jugs of coolant, spare parts (fan belt, points, distributor cap) and of course your toolkit. Since you're mechanically familiar with your PV, chances are you're better equipped to diagnose and fix any minor problems yourself. I did have an overheating problem as I was approaching Scranton a few years ago in my PV444. I also had a spare generator, camshaft gear and a set of rad hoses, just in case. I'm sure you'll make it without any mishaps. See you on Saturday.

Don't get on I-476, theres no way to get to the fairgrounds once you're on the turnpike. Take the exit *for* the turnpike, but stay in Route 11 all the way into Carlisle. I'll be coming from the south, so I'm not much help for you in terms of roadside service, otherwise I'd be glad to help. There's not much besides general auto repair and parts places along 81 as far as I know... bring anything unique to the car that might break. :) See you there.

correction 444-544

I just realized that I got my 476/76 toll roads confused. Was talking with my father (who drives tractor trailer up in that area on a regular basis) last night and he agrees with me that you'd be better off simply coming all the way down I-81 to Carlisle, instead of taking the long way around by going down the turnpike. Take exit 52, then take Rte. 11 south from there for a couple miles until you reach Carlisle proper, (you'll actually pass under I-76) there'll be an Autozone on your left, and a Hess station on your right. Make a right at the light just past the Hess station, and in two blocks, you'll see the fairgrounds. There are some nasty hills on 81 south of scranton but if you take it easy with the car you shouldn't have any problems. That, and it's preferable to going around two sides of a triangle. :)
