what do you guys think. 700

Hey everyone I just got a line on an 85 740 GLE with(if the odo is right)164,000 miles. It was a loner car for the volvo shop that I take my car to and my uncle bought it for 1200 bucks, he and his wife got a divorce and he left the car for her and moved to the coast I offered her 200 bucks and she said ok. It has been sitting for 4 years and the front tires are flat but the motor looks sound and I think it has a new tranny, it has some body damage and the interior is kinda gross but if it runs good it might be worth it the 200 bucks. My uncle said it ran good when he was driving it but who knows. I don't know much about the 700's I have an 82 245 so Im not a stranger to them but its still new to me. What do you guys think, is it worth it or should I pass on it?

    Go for it 700

For $200 I would be all over it, provided it is rust-free.

With an '85 you need to be aware of the wiring rot; but since this car was owned and operated by a Volvo shop for the majority(?) of it's life the engine harness may have already been replaced; in any case check all under-hood wiring well.

Was it sitting outside for four years, or under cover? If it was outside the brakes and exhaust might be a mess, and check bushings, especially the front control rod (cone) bushings. But that's all easy maintenance-type stuff anyhow...

Any interior and body attention it needs just adds to the challenge; how else could you start having so much fun for just 200 bucks?

Sounds like a good base for building a turbo conversion...

    Let's see a picture.

I called the shop and got the info on its past and they last serviced it in 2005 with a new timing belt. The problem is that the ladies piece of garbage grandson drove it for the last 20,000 miles and pretty much beat it to death(thus the destroyed interior) I just found all of this out and it is a quart and a half low on oil and not a drip on the ground, leads me to believe that it burns oil and has not been properly maintained, I don't want to dump more money into this thing so I think I will use the 200 bucks to do some work on my old girl(she loves money) Thanks for the reply friend.
