I have had a very busy weekend. On my 1989 Volvo 240, I replaced the rack and pinion, tie rod ends, removed and cleaned my throttle body, intake manifold, replaced gaskets (thanks for install dry advise), replaced the oil trap, and replaced the flame trap and all of it's hoses.

But now to my problem. I have mounted the air control valve and snapped in the electrical conection. But I have no idea where the hoses go. I hope someone here can help me out. Some pictures would be great. I might also need to know where some of the throttle body hoses go. My bentley manual has helped a little but not very good pics.

I know I should have taken pictures before I started.

    Tnoy H. has it - connect the hoses from the IAC like he says to. That way, you see, the IAC does its job.

    Without the IAC, when the throttle plate closes the engine would get no air, and die. The IAC, which goes into action when the throttle position switch signals to the ECU that the plate is closed, allows controlled air into the engine. The ECU controls the IAC to allow enough air to keep the idle speed around 750-800 rpm.

    So the hoses from the IAC must bypass the throttle body. Make sense?

    While you are in there, inspect the air intake accordion hose. I have found on several 240s that the bottom side of it gets little holes in it that are impossible (for me) to see without taking the hose off the car.

    A hole there will allow unmetered air into the engine. Seen by the 02 sensor as running lean, the ECU will add fuel. Whack! on the gas mileage.

    If you find a hole, some black vinyl electrical tape will do as a short term patch. Gives you time to order and install a new one.

    Idle control valve:

    Two large hoses, The one in more toward tye center of te Valve comes up and goes to a nipple in between Runners 2 and 3 of the Intake manifold
    The large hose on the end comes up and attaches to the Big Bellows that clamps to the front of the Throttle body.
