vacuum leakage 900 1996

Looking for a `leaking' vacuum pipe!
Is there any info to be had as to where all the hoses are, that can effect the running of a 960 96 model 3 ltr engine.
I have looked in the FAQ and there is plenty of info about the problems associated with leakage but I cannot find any diagrams showing all the pipe lines in question
I am, at this time, stripping the inlet manifold out and do not want to miss any relivent hose
Thanks in anticipation
Paul

I have a similar issue on my 95 960. After much looking for the mystery leak, i finally had a shop do a smoke test. They hooked a machine that pumps smoke into the vacuum lines. the smoke seeped out of my mystery razor thin crack in a hose that was not visible with the eye. Best $40 I ever spent. Might save some time & money

Spray carb cleaner on the vacuum hoses that you can see. If the engine speed up, you've found your leak.

There are five vac hoses that are hooked to the vac tree coming out of your intake manifold over on the drivers side of the car -on the back side behind the throttle body-remove all of them and replace with new hoses and the rubber mounts that attach them to the vac tree. While your doing that there is a 10mm bolt that hold the vac tree to the intake-take the bolt out and then you can remove the vac tree as well. There is a rubber 0 ring that seals the part to the intake. You can replace it or do what I did that works better-I applied some sensor safe sisicon gasket maker around it and stucker the sucker back on and then put the bolt back in. I'll never get it back out now but it's not going to leak again either.
You need to check all the vac lines over by the hook ups that go back into the cabin-they are over on the passenger side of the car on the fire wall-repalce all of them as well. If you have never done the above, it's high time it was.
      Hope that helps

        Hey Poolman,
Did you get vacuum lines somewhere other than the dealer? From memory, mine are hard plastic lines with rubber boots molded on the ends as one piece. It's on my "someday" list (along with the air intake mod), but I've never seen these vacuum lines on the Groton site, etc. Are you just using by-the-foot rubber line from NAPA?
        -Mike

Hello, it's him from England again!
mine are hard plastic pipes with small rubber hose connections at the ends.
According to the Volvo dealers they have never experienced a problem with the above parts failing, and, having just taken out my manifold to check these parts they seem to be in good order.
what I did find was that the `o' ring that seals the plastic branch line these pipes are connected to was flat and brittle and it also showed evidence of `oil' passing the seal.
I will soon know if this is where I was loosing vacuum
            Looking at where the vacuum pipes go I can see the following;
            one to the fuel line
one to the accon/heater unit inside the cab
            one to the flame trap
            one capped
one to a cannister at the front of the engine (slightly larger in dia. and rubber) and it passes through something that has an electrical cable to it
one to EGR valve (I think thats what it is)
            Am I right?
            Paul
