Occassional Idle + Take Off Problems 900

Hi everyone

Recent I've begun to notice an "issue" when taking off from idle after... for example sitting at a stop light for a while. I will be sitting at a stop light, idling for a while and once the light turns green and I give it gas - occassionally the engine will stutter, almost stalling but it then saves itself and continues.

I should also mention that occassionally at a stop light, while idling the car will "stutter" like it does on take off as explained above, but without stepping on the gas. The first time it happened I thought... crap I'm about out of gas - but that wasn't it. I believe these two things may have to do with each other but I'm not quite sure.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Thanks for all of your replies, everyone. I haven't had a chance to look into this besides checking the codes.

The only one I got back was - Socket B, Port 2:

1-2-2. Looking in the FAQ this would mean something is up with the Air Temeprature System (I do have a Regina fuel system)? Would that cause any of the issues I'm having? Would that signal a CEL light too?

Edit: Socket B, Port 6 reads nothing. I couldn't get any lights from it yet... is that normal?

Check the ODB codes for IAC operation. If you don't clean it carefully you can damage it. Ever change or check the fuel pump or the FPR?

Sounds like maybe your idle air valve is getting sticky; it can be easily replaced or cleaned per the FAQ's...

Check for dirt also in the flame trap and throttle body, and for any bad vacuum hoses. Check function of TPS.

    That's where I'd start...

      Hi Shifted,

Thanks for the quick response, its much appreciated!

I've cleaned the IAC recently with some carb cleaner, which helped some cold rough idle problems I was having, but it probably wouldn't hurt to do it again. It's easy to do.

If that doesn't fix my issues, I'll try the other suggestions.

Check your throttle position switch too - that's what kicks the IAC in and out as you go in and out of idle.
