Temperature sensor/EGR valve testing. 900

Hi all,
1994 940 turbo. Replaced temperature sensor for gauge. I also removed the other temperature sensor for the ECU to see its condition. The probe is blackish and I am wondering if I can make it shiny like new sensor with some abrasive cleaner. Please advise. Does cleaning of the probe will remove some kind of coating. I noticed on the new sensor it looks it does not have any coating. A while back check engine light came up with a code for EGR valve issue. Is there a way to test this valve.
Thanks
Ram

Hello, use a vacuum pump on the nipple of the egr. it should move in and out. Pauli

To test the EGR you can loose the vacuum tube from the connector, on the left strut mount. Apply some suction (mouth or pump) when the engine is idling and it should stall.

HTH,
mila
