Trailer Hitch Bolts 200

Has anyone found a source for the 2 full threaded M14 x 2.0mm x 120mm bolts needed to install a trailer hitch? I couldn't find anything in the older post.

    Trailer Hitch Bolts 200

I wound up buying a stick of high grade threaded rod and making my own on the last 240 hitch I did. Cut them to size and ground a slot in one end for a big screwdriver to run it down, then nuts and washers on each end.

I did see that P/N from a previous post. My only concern is that the original bolt was a 8.8 and felt that I should stay with that grade.

Mine, from McMaster, are stamped 8.8 .... 200

I got my latest set from McMaster -- they're black, and they're stamped 8.8.

There's also a peculiar additional mark on them, though, also on the head and on the side opposite the "8.8". It looks like two "right angles" -- i.e., a two lines forming a right angle, and next to it a mirror image of that. I'm not concerned about that mark, though, as long as it's 8.8.

Do you have a PN? The only ones I could find are partially threaded. I may end up getting them and cutting additional thread.

It's what you want, fully threaded! Here's the p/n and description .... 200

Following is a quotation from their website's product listing -- and yes, it's fully threaded. Just go to the website, www.mcmaster.com, and look up this part no. in the little box on the upper left.

            p/n 91287A808
"Metric 18-8 SS Hex Head Cap Screw M14 Size, 120mm Length, 2mm Pitch, Fully Threaded"

            Only downside ... they're $10.98 each!

            Hope this helps!

            Regards,

If you are willing to cut your own threads (on partially threaded bolts- ie 931)you can get the 8.8 bolts at Fastenal for $3.75 each.

            http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=39251

You might even be able to find a Fastenal store near you that has them or can get them quickly.

          That's metric-speak for almost grade 5
Good choice; grade 8 will snap not bend.

Well - FWIW - I bought those and they didn't fail between Iowa and Alaska towing a 5x8' trailer that was taller than the car and had plenty of crap in it.

I'm not saying that there not plenty strong and they may be fine but my guess is that in the event of a rear end collosion the stress on these bolts would be far greater than normal towing.
