Hello,
The bushings, bearings and seals are still available to rebuild the steering box in your P210.
The parts are not cheap and there is a possiblity that the shaft, which is not a part that you can buy new, might need attention as the bearing surfaces can become pitted.
So if you want to rebuild, you need to remove the steering box and take it apart to see if it can be rebuilt easily with just bushings, bearings and seals or if it needs further repair.
I have approached my machinist about repairing the bearing surfaces on these shafts and he referred me to a specialist grinder who is going to fill in the pits with a steel wire feed welder and then grind the surface back to its original shape and diameter with a custom made grinding wheel.
The problem is the specialist wants a lot of money to make the custom grinding wheel and recommends that I repair at least 10 shafts at a time to make it worth the while due to set up fees.
I am collecting shafts to make up a large enough order and since the 544/P210, 1800, 122 and 140 Volvos all used the same bearings in their manual steering boxes, all these listed shafts can qualify to be rebuilt on the same set up.
