Does anyone know this answer here???? 120-130

Hi all!

I have been confused about this for some time!
It still has to do with the rear brakes on my
1967 220. It has the later 68' dual circuit system
and i want to get the correct cylinder/s on my car.

Here is the link to a CVI page which has what I believe to be the
correct listing for my brake cylinder, Part #673391.

CLICK HERE for CVI Brakes Page

My problem is that everywhere else I look people seem to be
selling part #667166 for my car saying that it is what I need.
This is the cylinder used on the "all drum" earlier Amazons.

Part number #673391 seems to be listed for use on only
my 1967/68 dual brake car.

There is a difference in appearance.

I think that when I bought and replaced the one for my passenger side,
I bought the earlier syle one and now I need one for my drivers side.
(I know I should have done them both at the same time)

I have not been happy with the brakes and I am wondering now if the
rear cylinder I replaced was actually wrong for my car, even though
it seems to fit properly and work.

Any advice of suggestions would be greatly appreciated here!!!

Thank you,

Karl

ANSWER Does anyone know this answer here???? 120-130

    Hello Karl,

According to a Volvo factory quick reference guide that I have, the following are the correct applications for rear brake cylinders as they pertain to 122 and 1800 Volvos with front disc brakes:

Wheel cylinder 673731 is correct for 1969 1800S and 1969-1970 122S sedans and wagons.

Wheel cylinder 667166 is correct for 1968 1800S and 1968 122S sedans and wagons with dual circuit brakes.

    Wheel cylinder 671216 is correct for ALL PRE 1968 122 WAGONS WITH SINGLE CIRCUIT BRAKES and ALL P120(122 4 door) with a B18A and P130(122 2 door) with a B18A -279899 P120 with a B18D -225049 and P130 with a B18D -216949.

Wheel cylinder 670404 is correct for P120 with a B18D 225050- and P130 with B18B or B18D 216950-279899 and P130 279900- with single circuit brakes. Volvo lists 3 different part numbers for P180(P1800, 1800S)rear wheel cylinders for single circuit brakes, but I believe 2 of the numbers update to the 670404, which is one of the 3 listed wheel cylinder numbers.

When I investigated further, I found wheel cylinder 673391 is the correct number for 1968 wagons with dual circuit brakes. My quick reference guide does specifically identifies the station wagon as using the 667166 wheel cylinder, so I can not account for that discrepency in my quick reference guide, but as long as both rear wheel cylinders are the same part number is what is important, which is another good reason to change wheel cylinders in pairs.

      Thank you as well Eric!

I knew there would be a few people who could finally put
this question to rest for me.

      I love this place!!!!

        Hello Karl,

I rechecked my facts and updated my last posting.

It turns out that there are 2 wheel cylinders for the 1968 122S, 667166 for the 2 and 4 door sedans and 1800S with dual circuit brakes and the number you found, 673391 which is for the 1968 122 wagons with dual circuit brakes.

For some reason, my factory Volvo quick reference guide shows that the 667166 numbers as the correct replacement for all 122S body styles, but when I used my factory Volvo parts book, it shows the 2nd number for the 122S station wagon.

I have been installing the 667166 in all 1968 Volvos with rear drums, including the 122S wagons with no problems.

        The 667166 is also cheaper.

          Wagner parts number???? 120-130

          Okay Eric!

Here is the big question....Can you give
me a Wagner part number on the #673391???

If you can then I have hit the Jackpot!!!!

          LOL

          I keep getting a Beck/Arnley part #0724062
I was wondering if this is indeed what I should order.
It comes up the same if I search 67 or 68 122 wagon(220)

It also comes up the same for the 66 so I am afraid it is not correct!

The Wagner part number would "seal the deal"

          Thanks,

          karl

            Wagner parts number???? 120-130

            Hello Karl,

The 0724062 appears to be either the 670404(1" diameter piston) or 671216 (7/8") both of which would be the style that DOES NOT use the re-usable pins that are pushed by the wheel cylinder pistons and therefore ARE NOT the correct style for the 1968 dual circuit self-adjusting rear brakes.

I have not run across a Wagner number for the 673391.

              Wagner parts number???? 120-130

              Hello,

I have to correct my own previous post and I hate when that happens!!

The 670404 has 7/8" diameter pistons and the 671216 are the 1" diameter wheel cylinders.

              So sorry for any confusion.

              Wagner parts number???? 120-130

Well, I am pretty sure I used a #667166 on
the other side so i may be stuck using it on
              the drivers side as well.

I does appear to work and my mushy brakes could
possibly be caused by the fact that i only changed
              the one cylinder last Fall.

              I am learning....LOL.

I do have an email into Soren in Denmark to see if he
knows of a Wagner part number for the #673391. If I
do find one I will definitely post it up in this thread.

I will also fire off an email to Olof @ vintage imports
to see if he knows of a Wagner part number.

I think that is where I got the #667166 from so i
am guessing he does the same thing.

thanks again for all the help and I
will update as I find things out.

              Cheers,

              karl

#667166 will also work if you change both at once.

      Thank you Phil!

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't
      some reason why I shouldn't use them...like
      pressure/force differences.
      Just my goofy thinking.

The 667166 seemed to fit as a replacement; it
was just my mistake of not doing both sides
      at the same time.

      Appreciate the help!

      cheers,

        where???? 120-130

While I do arithmetic well, I didn't find either of the numbers you listed
on the CVI page. Should I have?
