ignition coil interchange 140-160

I'm pretty sure that the answer is no, but will a coil from a 160 work on a 140?

Yes! :-) 140-160

Looks like there's no 140/160 Coil interchange... 140-160

...according to RPR catalog:

!40's use Bosch 012, 027, or Volvo 238641-5 depending on year/engine

160's use Bosch 006 or 021 depending on year

Some 164's used a ballast resistor, the 140 doesn't.

Correction, some ignition coils use external ballast resistors, some have them built in. Depends on what is used on your car. There is no difference in performance other than an external ballast resistor would remain cooler than an internal one. So since a 6 cylinder fires 50% more sparks than a 4 cylinder, there is an advantage in having an external resistor for the 6 cylinder. External resistors require more wiring/labour to install, so they use an internal ballast whenever they can due to lower manufacturing cost.

If you go to electronic ignition, you do not want a ballast resistor at all. (However it will still work with a ballast resistor, it is just not desirable.)

But some of my 140's have had ballast resisters ;-)

Actually I found a resistor in line on my '74. I'll see later what the greenbook wiring diagram says.

Ethan: guess what I've got for you.

It's alive again. Electric choke isn't working so it's hard starting. Must save money for better carbs or FI.

Parts is Parts. 140-160

The 71 B 20-F I have is dressed for FI and I have the bits...
25 mpg at 70 isn't so hot.
The 73-145-E did 30 at 70.
