Advice needed on reattaching fuel line 200 1990

Thought I'd post this again, since my original post got buried pretty quickly - busy week for brickers now that the weather is opening up!

Because my fuel filter was apparently installed with an impact wrench, I had to pull the whole fuel filter & main pump assembly off in order to get it into the bench vise. I've got the filter replaced and am ready to reinstall the whole assembly but there's one issue. I had to snip the fuel line heading forward to the engine off at the burr fitting that exits the filter. Unfortunately, this is the nylon stuff that won't go back over the burr fitting. Can I just butt the end of the fuel line to the fitting and use an equally high psi-rated piece of neoprene (or other hose) to act as a sleeve over the joint, fastened with a couple of good compression clamps?

Researching a bit through old posts, I found the idea of using a heat gun to soften the nylon tubing enough to get it over the burr.

Any thoughts welcome.

    Thanks Guys! 200 1990

It sounds like both options are viable. Thanks - I just need some reassurance, since I'm used to working on old (1953 and prior) chevvies, which can be fixed with masking tape and an old tin can if necessary! High pressure fuel line - what's that ... ;>)

If you go with the hose/splice, use FI rated hose. I think the SAE rating is R9.

Kinda pricey ($5 or $6 per foot maybe), but the right stuff.

Thanks - fortunately, it would take a very short piece. Need to get Bobo out of his bay in the garage. A '48 Fleetline may be on its way to a new home...

I have done just as you suggested on the filter connection to our 850 years ago and it is still holding strong and leak free many years later.

the plastic tubing is the "heat shrink" type... if you have enough length that's the way to put it back. I've done it with a hairdrier.

Just be careful and don't blow yourself up.

If you have an Autozone near you take a ride and see what they have. When my nephew's 240 sprung a leak in the high pressure plastic fuel line Autozone had a 5/16" compression fitting that did the trick. It sounds like you may have cut the line too close to the barbed fitting to put in a compression fitting.
