Obvious Air Box Mod??? 900

I know next to nothing about internal combustion engines, BUT...
I took out the airbox of my '93 940 turbo wagon to give it a good cleaning and find out where the hell the air intake is located. I discovered that it is drawing air from the wall cavitiy of the front quarter panel.
This was a surprise.

Wouldn't it be a performance modification to cut through that quarter panel and add a tiny air scoop to the side of the car?

This seems so obvious that there must be something wrong with my brilliant idea...

I’d not waste time on an intake mod. You can boost the turbo if you want but once you get into the rice-a-roni stuff you will be blocked and locked from this site. :o)
