Looking at a 940T 1995 model 900 1995

Hi all you brickboarders. I am looking at a 940 Turbo 1995 model for my girlfriends sister, and I would like some input. It is a one owner car with 240k kms with log books and service history. It has the moonroof, grey leather, tow hitch, two sets of wheels (winter/summer) dual airbags, power drivers seat, exterior temp gauge etc.
The thing is, I have a 1992 940 turbo and it drives better. My car has less kms and was owned by the "old lady" and is an awesome car.
I saw this other car yesterday, and drove it. It crashes over bumps, the engine "pings" under load, the drivers floor is worn, the bonnet doesn't open right (it jams against the rear near the windscreen and the paint is a bit average. There is a funny noise behind the dash, a tick or something.
The thing is for the price, I can't find any car that is better. A Carolla has nothing on these cars.
Funny there is no "Turbo" badge on the trunk, and no boost gauge in the dash. Is the 1995 model a low pressure turbo? Mine definitely goes better. What benefits/disadvantages does the 1995 model have over the 1992?
Your help is gladly appreciated.

That sounds like the low-pressure turbo version; I had never heard of them in the USA but there are many here in Japan, sold as the 'Polar SX'. It is rated around 135 HP at 4900 RPM, using an 8.7/1 compression ratio and about three pounds of boost. If you have the low pressure Mitsubishi turbine it will have a blue tag; also the airbox will not have the 'TURBO' lettering. Engine designation is 'B230FK' rather than 'FT'.

Do a search on '940 Polar SX' and you will find lots more info on the LPT, evidently it is possible to make them quite peppy...

I looked at a few Polars here before I found my 945t; I had the idea that the engine would be in pretty good shape, never having had the boost cranked up.

The rest of the issues sound pretty normal, sounds like it needs struts and/or bushings, a tune up and some new hood hinges.

You don't mention the price but if it's low enough all those things could be easily forgiven...

You got me interested in the B230FK so read more on it. Yes, should be a lower stressed engine in comparison with the FT for comparable miles; a useful feature if looking to upgrade the turbo. The label on the timing belt cover should specify the type of engine in the car. My 95 945T has a B230FT, but it still comes without the Turbo sticker or the boost guage. So lack of those items is not related to the type of engine. I understand that Volvo stopped putting them in 940Ts in 95.

We have a 95 945T. Like yours, it has no "Turbo" badge on the trunk, and no boost gauge. About 100K miles now. Great shape and runs great. Some upgrades; lots of power. I think you're dealing with car-specific conditions/history.
