IPD Polys in - popping sound when turning wheel 200

Just put IPD poly bushings in the front and rear on my 91 240. Have the cherry turbo brace, strut tower to firewall braces, and the lower tie braces on.

After three days of smooth riding, I am getting a "popping" sound in the wheel/front suspension area when moving the steering back and forth slightly at 20 mph or so. Retorqued all bolts tied to the bushing install - all was fine - but could not check the pocket bushing before it got dark. Will do it tomorrow. Able to check the crossmember bolts from inside the engine compartment - all was well.

The ball joints are Boge with only 30K or so on them. The struts were replaced 35,000 miles ago.

Any ideas?

IPD Polys in - popping sound when turning wheel 200

    Update -

Just pushed down on the front of the car - and am getting an obvious popping noise when pushing it down and releasing with the car stationary......

Would the IPD Poly bushings throw something else out of whack to cause this? No noise at all until they were installed....... and now I can make the noise manually. Jorrell, does it sound like the sway bar is out of adjustment?

Any other ideas would be appreciated!

      Dave:

No guarantee but the popping/clunk noise "sounds" like the swaybar end links. Although loosening the nuts and lubing the bushings cured it for now, if they start making noise again, I'll switch the end links back to factory rubber.

        Jorrell,

You were right. The lower end link bushings - the only remaining rubber in my suspension - were shot. Drilled them out, and have poly on the way!

        Appreciate the tip.

Grease the snot out of the sway bar end link bushings. Although they are blue, they are too soft.... You might also want to back off how far the end link sway bar bushings are cranked down. In combination, those two corrections eliminated the suspension noise from the front end.

Don't get me started on the rear suspension though! Aaargh!
