trying to ascertain if the '81 245 has girling, or ate, calipers....... 200

I am going to do brakes all the way around, and can't tell (by looking at the rear caliper) if it is Girling or ATE. The front rotors are solid, and have Girling calipers-if that helps any. Thanks in advance :)

I'll bet you have ATE. Here's how to tell .... 200

I'll bet you have ATE rears -- I've never seen anything else on 240s in this U.S. market.

Here's how to confirm, though: ATE calipers hold the pads in place with a metal "spring" -- it looks like a cross lying on top of the pads, with the shorter transverse pieces pressing on the middle of the pad backing plates; the longer longitudinal arms are held down (therefore pressing on the pads) by having two pins running tranversely over the longitudinal arms. I'll bet that's what you see.

Thank you for the help! I will take a look at the caliper again this evening, and once I have confirmed that it is a ATE caliper I will go about ordering the parts. Have a most splendid evening one and all :)

Rears are 99% ATEs

does the rear look different than the front: retaining pins have no "bobby-pin" inserts to hold them in place. A spring that backs the pads in place and anchored by the retaining pins is flat. The girling/fronts have 2 wire springs.
