    VO:

I've given up on aftermarket down/head pipes. If you are in or near Western NC, look up Scott's Muffler in Lexington, NC. I took the car to him for an entire exhaust system, he ordered a aftermarket head pipe from his supplier, quickly realized it was sooo far off it wouldn't fit, so he built one from scratch for less money that is simply gorgeous! If you need contact info, let me know!

ps. Find a highly recommended exhaust shop that does custom work... only way to go!

Sorry I only remember seeing the post on that about a month? ago.
Do a search on "header pipe"; with any luck the thread will show up that way.

What I did learn from having my good indy shop replace two header pipes on 240s - there's a mount to a bracket to the auto transmission. Probably same for standard tranny. Aftermarket header pipes usually don't align properly with the attachment bracket. Not really a problem as long as you don't leave the bracket and header pipe sitting alongside each other without being attached - they will knock and vibrate. So cut off bracket or modify the attachment point so you can bolt them together firmly.

      Good points!

My last 740 went years without the bracket attached to the headpipe... My current manual trans 240 either didn't have the bracket (not likely), or it got lost when the PO had the clutch replaced (more likely).

Your existing headpipe may be weldable/fixable... look into it! Otherwise, the best replacement brand is Volvo, but pricey. I put a Bosal one on my 240 in February... can't complain... though I replaced *everything* behind it, so as to whether it's a *perfect* fit (exact dimensions as the stock one) I can't say.

Just be sure to get the right style pipe. Don't get one with a spin flange on the end if your current one doesn't have one. You have a non-turbo?
