Hello all!
I got my 220 up on my patio to bleed the brakes last night
and realized that the battery was not charging. I waited until this
afternoon to test the battery, as it was older, and I suspected that
was my problem. To my suprise it was the alternator I had installed
not to long after I purchased the car. I guess it has been several
years now and boy time does fly.
I had to upgrade originally as the sound system I installed seem to suck the life out of the generator while I operated everything else. I did the upgrade myself without any of the kits available. I would probably buy Ron's (SWEM)
kit if I did it again. Although what I put together originally is holding up fine. (except for the alternator)
I have always planned on cleaning up my engine compartment and making
it a nice little show piece but time and money has been standing in the way. I have however collected several chrome pieces to dress it up, one being a chrome alternator I bought from Summit Racing. After buying the 66' 4-door 122 for my son I was just going to give him all of these parts for his engine BUT today I needed an alternator AND that was the only one i had. (chrome one)
SO, I installed it in my ugly engine compartment and we are
back on the road again!!!! See picture below.
It is a single wire with internal regulator and it
works like a charm. I need to wire up a voltmeter though!
Just wanted to share my joy and I do appologize for the long post!
Cheers,
Karl

It looks nice and clean in the engine compt. That was real nice of Jay to let you "borrow" his alternator! :-) Was the other alternator freshly rebuilt when you first started using it a couple of years ago?
BTW - it might be a good idea to move the fuel filter a little further away from the exhaust manifold.
Best regards,

Hello Joe!
It was getting dark as I was taking the picture, right after
finishing up. I noticed the fuel filter laying down there
as I was croping the picture to post. I will correct that
this afternoon when I bleed the brakes and I thank you for
pointing that out!
I am going to remove the voltage regulator and clean
up the wiring a little better. I basically wanted to
make sure it was going to work. I am also going to splice
in a voltmeter and attach it somewhere in the cockpit to
head off any future problems.
How has Abbey been???
She sure looks perdy!
:o)

Her nose is still a bit nekked but she is doing just fine so far.
Thanks for asking.
The barbeque grill winter cover came off last week. Let me know if you are in the neighborhood and would like a bite to eat. Speaking of grills - there is a 122 nose piece and set of grills saved here if you want them.
Take care,

every inch of chrome makes the car go faster, right?

Yup!
Not really worried about the speed thing though
If I was I would have kept the 70' Chevelle...lol.

I dunno. I tend to think chroming all the stuff looks a little too "Bling-Bling" for a Volvo. But consider that I like dull shine of polished cast-iron in my cars and nickel-plating on my faucets.
But, any alternator when you're in need is better than a dead car.
I *do* love chrome on the outside and inside the cabin...
Oh, Happ, are you still needing an AC crank pulley? Feel free to e-mail me at repairmanjack@sbcglobal.net and we can talk.

Yeah, I want to grab a set of Old Kombi's air cleaners
someday so i figured I would dress up the engine compartment
as well. I have always been a fan of chrome so I figured
the old girl could sport a little "bling" under the hood
as well.
I love the "stock" cars too but she will
never be "stock" while I own her. I know,
I have upset the purists...lol.
I guess once I took the generator out it was all
down hill from there!
:o)
Cheers,
Karl

Did you get the email I sent you Friday night by chance?
I just sent you another email off-board.

if you email me a quick hello with a working email address I'll explain the pulley situation...
