Can someone tell me how to determine what the amperage of an alternator is by looking at the numbers on it? I have a Bosch 14923 that came off an '86 240 and I want to know how to tell what the amperage rating is.

    The 86's originally came with a 70amp. Normally they have a label. If not, call the dealer or autoparts store, they can cross reference the Bosch number and should be able to tell you.
