Hard start 1997 960 wagon 900 1997

Car recently began "hard starting", makes no differance if it's cold or warmed up. Seems like it might have "missed" a cylinder during initial rotation yesterday morning. I read thrugh the FAQ's, and will probably replace the spark plugs this afternoon. I'm sure they have been replaced, but with 138K it may be time. The serpentine belt has also been routinly changed. Any suggestions appreciated.

Can you please describe 'hard starting' from your perspective? Longer cranking than ususal, rough running, starts then stalls, uneven cranking speed, etc....

longer cranking time. Usually after a long inital cranking time, I stop it, let it rest and then crank it again, and it starts - then stalls. Then the third time I start it/crank it, and it starts, sputters a bit, and then runs fine.

Suggest you get or borrow a fuel pressure gauge with a schraeder valve on it and attatch it to the end of the fuel rail. Check static pressure, key on engine off pressure and engine running pressures.

Replace your crank sensor first. Its time to do it anyway.
