buying advise 900

I have gotten such wonderful advise on this site I thought I would ask for some more. I am looking at possibly buying a 1995 or a 1997 960 tomorrow.
Is one year better than the other?
Thanks

Eve,don't let the stuff in the FAQ scare you off-these can be great cars. The newer the better is a good general rule with used cars-the '95 and '97 are very similar.95 was the first year for a substantial redesign of the 960 body and suspension. These cars ride and handle better than the older design. There are no gotchas on the '97-since '95 was the first year for this,my instinct (plus the rule above) would steer me toward the '97.BUT...service history, mileage and condition are important also-if the '95 has lower miles, better records and/or is in better shape I would say get it.Timing belts MUST be changed at the recommended intervals-a broken belt will smash the valves. The cooling system needs to be addressed also-radiators can crack on these cars-it may have been replaced already.Front suspension bushings are a little weak.Other stuff is basic to any car-oil chnges, belts, hoses, etc.

I see from your post that you own both a V90 and 940T.

Can you comment on the reliability of these 2 models?

I ask because later this year I plan to replace my trusty 245 with another Volvo and am considering a 940T (1st choice), a 98 S70 GLT or T5 (also 95 through 97 850T) or possibly a later 960 or S90.

I really want a 940T but there are not many available in the Seattle area. There are plenty of 850s and S70s so I am leaning that way just based on availability.

I prefer to do my own maintenance so am particularly interested in the red block of the 940.

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Check FAQ before you purchase a 960. Many different opinions on the 960's. Do your homework on the 960 before you make up your mind. I didn't and paid and expensive price.
