745 getting its 100,000...HEY! Get your badge! 700 1990

Go to your dealer and get a form for a 100,000 mile badge.

You can also get them through Volvo's web site.

I put ours on the panel near the rear license plate, that way other drivers can see them when stopped in traffic, or after you pass them.

is that badge free? thanks for the info anyway.

By the way - what is this red mark at about 55 MPH at the speedo?
Is that the speed at which the best MPG is reached?..

Red mark @ 55 MPH 700 1990

The red mark was required at one time by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. From 1980 to 85, speedometers were prohibited from having numbers greater than 85 MPH, and had to have 55 highlighted in some way. The limitations on numbering were removed for the 86 models, but the highlighting requirement remained in force until some time in the early 90s.

Actually it was 1980-1982 MY - my father's 1983 Mazda 626 speedo had numbers above 100 MPH...and even Volvo 240 in 1984-1985 had speedos that read up to 120 MPH - check the 1984 240 Diesel wagon on e-bay right now as an example. Several manufacturers however continued to not put numbers above 85 MPH for several years (the Merkur XR4Ti is a good example - the speedo face has lines up to 150 MPH but the numbers stopped at 85 for the 1985-1986 models).

A spring chicken. I have only bought one Volvo that had less than 100,000 miles on the clock. I have taken three over 200,000 miles, and intend to do several more.

Good luck with your brick, a nice start for the new year.

Welcome to the club! Do your maintenance, and get ready to enjoy what is essentially a freshly broken in car! Mine's got 199600. Will be calling for the 200k badge in about a week or two, by my calculations.
Cheers!
