Ther ones that I used on my 544 came off of a 122. They just bolt on with 4 fine thread bolts. If you are putting them on a 544 you will have to drill 1 hole to make it fit.

Re: Disc brake rotors. I found these on ebay today, and noticed they look suspiciously close to the Scandix disc brakes, no?

Of course, while a bit cheaper, you'd have to pay shipping from the UK.

If thats what you want to do you may as well make them from scratch, 240 calipers won't bolt onto 120/1800 brackets without modification.

I haven't had the benefit of seeing the 240 calipers in person or in detail, but there was someone who posted in another thread who said that he used the brackets from an 1800 or 122 but used the calipers and rotors for a 240. He said that they bolted directly to the brackets (the bolt threads and width were apparently the same for both). I'm still curious about the hydraulic advantage and how the 240 calipers would effect bias though. Would you need a brake booster and significant bias adjustment to make them work properly?

Either way, I finally have some 122 discs on my 444, and I am very happy with the braking.

I have used the 120 brackets with 240 calipers with 120 rotors. Yes they bolt on, and I have had some brake biasing issues. Unless the rear shoes are adjusted right to the highest point the rear brakes will grab and lock the rear wheels. I have just purchased a "Stainless Steel Brakes" proportioning valve to fix this. I have not installed it so I cannot coment on the results yet.

While we are on this subject of disc brakes, how do they work with the stock master cyl. ? Would it be better to run a small booster and master from another setup ? Hey if you do the disc brake conversion don`t forget to get the backing plates along with the caliper bracket . Good luck ! ledfoot

In my case, they work fine. I have 3 piston 122 calipers in front witht he stock Wagner rear brakes. While the brake balance is not as heavily front biased as it was with drums all the way around, the fronts still lock up before the rears do. The pedal effort is about the same as it was before, maybe slightly higher. It takes a firm push to get serious braking, but it's not like you are *mAsHiNg* your foot on the pedal.

Actually, in normal driving you'd never really notice the difference. Well, maybe a slight reduction in steering pull under har braking (the drums used to sort of tentatively pull back and forth slightly). The difference is after 2 or 3 or 4 hard stops in a row in quick succession (would have been harder to do with the stock B18 still in it!) the drums used to start to fade, not a comforting sensation. The discs keep on working perfectly.
