Wix oil filters 200

I've heard good thing about the Wix oil filters and was thinking of switching to them from Mann. Problem is the only place I could find them in my area was Allied Auto and they sell them at $7.50 each. Just wondering if anyone uses them and where they get them.

it has been my experience that the brand makes very little difference if you change the oil regularly... i just like the cheap filters and change them every 5000miles rather than every 7500 as my manual calls for....you may wanna put a very beefy magnet on the side of the filter for extra protection...wix makes good stuff. they were the only us sold filter form ym 86 ford ranger diesel...they were expensive though...$40 each...and had to be specially ordered in boxes of 6!

After reading all these & checking out the site on filter test, I ran out & got a Motorcraft FL-1A. After taking a good look, I put it on the scales. It taller but also 15.75 grames Lighter than the Mann 917. I though that was real interesting. Although $2.99 at the Zone. I was thinking of removing an after market oil cooler. Got a oil leak that I have not found.

I use the WIX Gold filters on my Volvo cars and on my customers cars.
The only time I use the Mann is when a customer wants it.I have seen Nascar engines torn down using the Wix filters and find not a scratch in any of the bearing. This is the thing that changed my mind on them that and the NAPA store sells them and will deleive them to the shop.Look at it this way if a engine can run for 500 MLs at 8 to 9000 rpms with not a scratch in any of the bearing then they aare good enough for these B230 engines turning 3000 rpms.

Hi, Rodney, I have to take a small issue with your logic here....there's a huge difference between the duty cycle of a racing engine...torn down and rebuilt after every race, and a passenger vehicle which must last through many years of various conditions, including possibly owner neglect in frequency of oil changes, etc.

The duty of the filters on the race engine is to keep the oil clean for a few hours, and to do so with minimal pressure drop. They probably set them up in parallel pairs. Any one of a dozen filters can do that. The one on the engine is the one that paid the car owner the most to put their decal on the side of the car - ie: bragging rights.

The Volvo engineers chose the Mann for many reasons, (economics being among them), but it is also a very high quality unit.

As is the Wix, no argument there. But the race track is, in many instances, not the proper test of a component's suitability for the 'street'.

Now stepping down from my soapbox......

See what NAPA want for a "NAPA Gold" filter. They have always been a Wix in disguise - probably still are.

I don't see the point of price shopping when you can get a flat of 10 Mann W917's for $35 from FCP-Groton. Even if that's all you order, so the filters have to bear the full shipping charge, it still comes down to something like $4.50 per unit. If you buy no-name WalMart filters at, say, $3 - you are saving $1.50 every three-to-six months. Woo-hoo. Your Volvo deserves better!

I found that my 300M uses the same filter as my Volvo. I use Mann filters on my 940SE sedan and wagon but found that I have to use a WIX filter on the 300M as the filter isn't accessible as the Volvo. I need the segmented end design for the 300M.

I generally pay under $5 for the WIX oil filter at the local autoparts store.

The NAPA filters used to be Wix, they may still be. They were still more expensive than Mann filters purchased by the dozen.

You can order them from these folks, http://www.fleetfilter.com/index.html.

They are a top quality filter, IMO.

Wix are highly rated & expensive around my way too.

Mann, highly rated.
Motorcraft, highly rated.
Super Tech, highly rated.

I put a Wally World Super Tech filter on my ride, for the first time ever, yesterday.

So far, I think the anti drain back valve is top notch. My oil light goes off on start up in a micro second.

I saw a web-site where a guy cut up and examined all types of oil filters. It was a great read & very informative -I'll look for it again later tonight. He discusses # of pleats, type of filter media, filter construction, and more.

If you got an issue with a cheaper filter, change out the ST filters more often -plus you can introduce a quart of fresh oil into you oil system if you do it like that.

I would never pay $7 for any filter.

Still, I will not lie, plus you guys got me brain washed (LOL), I prefer Mann filters.

Is it true that a larger Motorcraft filter will fit on a b230. I spent an hour yesterday looking for said filter but could not find it.

More volume, more better. Right?

I also noticed the SuperTech filters 200

Now have the anti drainback seal in them. Would I dare buy them for my 240 instead of the Mann? Opinions?

I started using the ST16 oil filters this year. The new ones are an "E-Core" design, made in the US by Champion Labs. They really aren't a poor quality filter considering the price(much better than Fram, anyway). They do have an ADBV, but I still get a 1sec. oil light on start-up.

i am running a ST filter for the first time. so far so good.

one caveat: i also use 4 rare earth magnets on my filters.

got them on ebay. 4 strong a$$ magnets, the size of a nickel, for $6 shipped.

way cheaper than the IPD magnet.

personally, i'm getting sick of ordering filters for my car.

the real truth: i keep 3 Manns stashed in my closet at all times.

if you change the filters more often, why not run a Super Tech?

too, i need to find out about the larger motorcraft filter.
