loss of power 700

My recently aquired '87 740 GLE wagon wouldn't hardly run at all when I got it. I replaced the AMM with a used one and that made it run better. Before that it wouldn't rev up and bogged badly when driving. Now, it still doesn't have much more power. It doesn't really miss or quit, but just acts like it is dragging an anchor behind it. It starts very quickly, cold or hot. It will rev up in neutral, but is slow with throttle response. One of the techs at the dealer said that it had a clogged fuel line or something like that. I'm not really sure what to think.

Once again the car starts and idles just like it should. I don't think that any of the brakes are dragging. There's no bucking or jerking when under load.

Thanks,
Dave

Pull the intake hose, the "accordian" looking one. Been known to crack on the underside.

I don't have all the info for ignition systems on US models, but assuming you have Bosch EZ it might be the throttle switch, or a vacuum leak, amongst a range of other possibilities. Has the timing belt been changed - if it were a couple of notches adrift it might do this. A blocked fule line would generally tend to make the engine stall.

There is a troubleshooting section in the FAQ's
