88 760 Wiper linkage cable... 700

Has any had to fix one of these? is there a good mickey-rig, easy junk yard replace, or is a factory part the only good way? I was going to put some cable ties together to fake it 'til I fixed it, but wanted some input...

Thanks, John

760 does not use any cables as the earlier cars did. Linkages and motor are forward of the firewall, not under the dash. You should look into the cowl and determine what is broken / worn out. You have not even mentioned what does or doesn't work.

let me clarify, under the cowl, where the wiper linkage arm is, it is connected to the offset wheel at the bottom of the wiper post by a wire cable. Mine failed in the middle of a storm (thankfully it was the passenger side) I limped home and found the problem. I contacted the dealership, and will be replacing it soon (I'm destitute right now). I'm doing the poor man's fake it right now... Rain-X

I have a 86 740 Wagon out in my driveway I have retired and I am getting ready to scrap within the next few weeks. I believe most of the generic parts are the same for the 86- 89's.

I live not too far from White River Junction. You are welcome to some parts from the 740 Wagon if you want them. Windshield wiper linkage parts all work fine - no problems whastoever.

If you want to send me your priavte email somehow, we can take this off line and you can come get some parts if you want to. Minimum price for just about anything you want off of the 740 Turbo Wagon. Also have some nice original Volvo alloy wheels amoung other stuff.

Let me know what you want to do.

You are right about the usability of parts for the 740s, but the guy with the broken wiper has a 760 (which changed body styles in '88). The wiper linkage is different between the two.

Well then, I have a question for you ! 700

I have only had the pleasure of owning 740 Wagons, a 1986 that I have just retired after 5 years of everyday useage. I bought the car at a yard sale in April '01 as sort of a joke and wound up liking it so much, I sold my '83 BMW 320I (E21 Body style). I don't know a whole heck of a lot about the 760s as a result.

I recently picked up this '92 wagon that is more or less a spitting image of the '86 (minus the Turbo). I bought it with the '86 in mind for spare parts - at least the ones that would fit onto the '92. They are both silver. The '86 was built in Belgium, the '92 built in Sweden, assembled in Canada.

I took one of the rear doors off the '86 and stuck it on the 92 and it was a perfect fit. The electrical window regulator is a bit different but the skins is the same.

Soooooo,

Are the front fenders interchangable beteween the '86 and the '92 ? They look almost exactly the same.

The key word is "almost". The fenders are not an exact fit. From the doors back, it's a direct swap.

Maple Leafer, Thanks for Info...... 700

Hey Mapleleafer,

Next Time I am in Ontario (or wherever you are) I'll drop you a toonie and treat you for a double double at Timmy's. We are going to home to Ottawa for the holidays. See you at the Smith Falls Bears game.

I am going to keep as many body parts off of the '86 and also engine parts from the B30FT Engine.

Thanks for your help.

The door was a perfect fit from the 86 to the 92. So, I am assuming the front doors match up exactly from the '86 to the '92 ?

A lot of the engine components are in very good shape off of the 86, worth keeping ? Selling ? Turbo and exhuast manifold are in very good shape.
