Conversion of 'point' distributor into an electronic one possible?

Hi all,

my 1975 Volvo 245 has the Bosch electronic distributor on it's B20F engine.

I would like a spare distributor.

Could I make myself one by transfering the electronic 'innards' of an OHC B21F electronic distributor into the housing of an earlier OHV 'points' one?

Thanks in advance for your valued input.

You can do this with much less grief by installing a Pertronix conversion. It is made for doing exactly what you want to do and they make a kit that properly fits your distributor.

I've been thinking of doing that on a D-jet distributor but haven't yet.
The electronic ones are still not too hard to find. They show up on ebay
from time to time.

Thanks, honorable Walrus.

Still, do you know if the conversion is doable?

I have a few B21F electronic distributors and can get OHV 'points' distributors at my local recycler.

I wouldn't be planning to try it if I didn't think it was possible.
The question is, hommuch machine work will be required and what precision
will be necessary to get it to work?
