rear end noise 200 1988

I have some clunking & rubber squish type sounds from some suspension component or other in the rear end of my 240 wagon.

In the last year and a half I have replaced the rear shocks, replaced the torque rod bushings with poly, and 2 weeks ago replaced the trailing arm bushings with poly bushings.

I still hear a clunk sometimes, and an odd rubber type squishy noise.

For the clunk I'm wondering about the internal brake shoes for the parking brake. Any easy way to check the operation of these? The parking brake does hold. Not too sure about the rubbery noise, especially because the new poly TABS just have an internal metal sleeve with no rubber inside that the bolt rides on like the old ones.

I suppose the clunk could be the bolts in the bushings as the car switches direction after backing out of the drive.

Any ideas?
Could the brake shoes for the parking brake sieze up inside the drum if they were to come loose?

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

Rubber squish might be the poly seating itself. Take a minute this weekend to check the torque on all the bolts, make sure they aren't too loose and conversely if you tightened them up with grandpa's 10,000ft lb air gun back them off a bit. Ckeck the parking break by crusing down a clear DRY road and gently pull up on it a bit see if it is pulling one side or the other, that is the easy way to check.

Good luck!
