fuel pump relay connector problem 87 245..how to make a snug connection? 200

my 87 245 will die ...i reach over and wiggle the plug and the car starts right up...but how to make a secure connection?I tried messing with the connectors inside the plug but with no real improvement...i have another plug still connected to its wires that i got from the pnp...i thought of soldering wire to wire and using the new plug with its wiring without unplugging the relay....any better ideas?Kris

I had a problem with the female spade for the red power wire in the socket coming loose. I had to compress the spade a bit so it made good contact. Took me forever to find out because it was intermittent. When It finaly didn't work long enough to trouble shoot, I measured 10 ohms accross the connection.

The relay has already been replaced/resoldered?

Are you sure it's the Connections at the connector that is the issue and not that the Internal Relay connections are bad and the slight movement forces a good connection at the Relay's Circuit board?

If you look at the end of each socket connection, they're basically like a C that's bent around until the tips almost touch the back. A very small screwdriver or knife blade can be used to gently bend the center of the terminal tighter.

If one breaks (possible, if the brass is overheated or really fatigued) it has a little tiny tab that can be compressed to pull out the contact. Again, a very fine screwdriver will help with this, or maybe even a paperclip.

If it's hopeless, a wire can be spliced in from your cut off harness plug. The contacts all should have sufficient tension to stay connected, so you're on the right track tightening these up.

    Good luck with it!
