Coolant Draincock replacement story - ' 82 240DL 176,300 miles 4spd+OD 200 1982

I recently changed & flushed my engine coolant. The draincock on the right side of the rear engine block by the tranny would "Freewheel" without either turning out or tightening yet retained the engine coolant.Evidently the threads were stripped. I assume this is a "frailsafe" backup for the benefit of the Gorilla mechanic fraternity. Any how I order the part from my local Volvo dealer in Brooklyn & when I came to pick it up they only had the center section & I had to return the next day. Seems that the old part # was replaced with 2 part numbers with both pieces sold separately.Nobody knows why .
Anyhow when ordering this piece be aware of the following part numbers you will need when ordering;

# 966723-9 CRANE center section list at $20.04

# 3531383-2 Nut List at $5.83

Hmmm, I would have tried to find a standard set of hardware store fittings which could do the job. If they are metric threaded then these folks can probably help:

Thanks for the story and the warning. $25 for a couple of little brass fittings!?

My next visit to the pick-n-pull, I'm going to remove and inspect a few and keep the best one as a spare.
