instructions/template for factory trailer hitch install? 200 1991

Today I found a genuine Volvo 240 trailer hitch at the not-so-local pick-n-pull. The hitch is destined for a 91 wagon. It looks like the rear plastic valence needs to be cut to let the hitch tube through. Does anyone have the template for cutting the holes in the valence and/or the original installation instructions? Lastly, are there any sources for the factory trailer light wiring adapter? Thanks in advance.

This might be of some help.

That's the one. Use those instructions. Print them out and you'll have the exact template. I used that and it was perfect.

About the heat shield. I asked about it at the time (btw, never did install the hitch) here and Art had said it needs to remain in place. The instructions aren't too clear on that point. If I recall, you need to cut a slot in the heat shield to accommodate the hitch.

Can anyone confirm that the hitch can be installed with the heat shield in place? And if so, how exactly is it done?

If you send me your email I will forward several images that give some dimensions and show the shapes of the cutouts for the factory hitch.

Hi.

You wrote:

way back in 2006 in reply to danPA.

If you still have them, would you be willing to do the same to me?? It is the same situation. I own the factory hitch, but I don't have the template for cutting the valence [sp?]. I presume the installation procedure is the same as for a draw-tite hitch, except the factory hitch requires somehow modifying the metal heat shield located above the muffler in addition to my 1990 240's plastic beauty valence [sp?]. Any ideas what the "official" modification procedure was?? The images you mentioned would be of help.

[Hopefully you will see this post.]

Thanks and regards,

Give me an email address that I can send it to, I've got a copy somewhere. If I can find it I'll email it to you.

If I remember correctly, the metal heat shield needs to be completely removed.

Have a look at this thread. The pictures have the templates you'll want.

I just cut to fit. If you get the hitch, make sure to take the 2 long bolts that go down from inside the car with it. If it has a factory wire outlet, just copy down the wire conections when you pull it.
