I think this needs replacing. See PIC 200

Hi again all. I think this wire goes to the CPS? Crank position sensor? It goes down to a small black unit mounted on top of the bell housing. The wire is obviously frayed. Although it has not given me any trouble, how soon should I replace this? Is it expensive?
Thanks

Some folks do it from the top, I reached around the bell housing with a 10 mm wrench and had no trouble at all. My car is a stick shift, which may matter,

If it does not want to pull out of the bell housing, work it out gently, don't break it off!!!

Don't drop the bolt in the hole!!

If you have big hands and thick arms, you may have to enlist the help of someone who doesn't

As the others said, cheap from FCP Groton. This is typical of the early crank sensors. I would replace ASAP.

If it is the Crank Position Sensor Wires i would replace it as soon as possible They are not that expensive --- I got mine at IPD for 45.00. The biggest problem is getting to it if you do not have the proper tools

Yikes. Usually the cps wire looks OK on the firewall, and looks like heck behind the valve cover where it goes down to the sensor. At least in my limited experience. If that wire does go to the CPS then I'd definitely replace it, even if it looks OK back there.

Look in the FAQ re. crank position sensors. Under the engine electrical or ignition system. It's in there. When you get into the FAQ you have to scroll down to find the index; it's almost as if someone tried to hide it.

You get into the FAQ from dropdown list at top right of these pages.

There were some decent threads re. CPS replacement here within the last couple months, if you can find them. There were some good tips there.

      A couple good threads:

      Good luck with it.
