242GT Exhaust Replacement 200 1980

Bought the Volvo cat back kit to replace my failing exhaust system. The system installed on it now is from some no name exhaust chain, presently under axle. My problem is that the Volvo kit is over axle and I am having issues trying to figure out how to route the over axle pipe. Can anyone offer any advice as to how the pipe is routed?

Also, the rear muffler has "IN" printed on one of the sides. Bently manual says something like "IN side connects to the tail pipe" but it seems counter intuitive. The IN should be inlet from the first muffler no? What am I missing here?

Thanks very much,
Bean

My understanding is that the over axle exhaust was for the 1976 and maybe 77 model year only, and after that the under axle was used. The problem will be clearing the sway bar with the over axle type. For sure the 1980 used under axle.
The IN end goes towards the engine.

Thanks for the reply. After taking a break I tackled the problem again and finally figured out that I had the pipe between first muffler and second backwards. My original, visual, analysis of the curves and bends was way off... Now it is in place, over axle, and everything so far is lining up nicely. Only have to install the cat converter to first muffler pipe and I'll be finished. Gave up for the night (1:30am) after finally getting the damed hangers on for the first muffler.

Looking at the rear of the car, the IN is on the right side of the car (closest point to the engine). Glad I don't have to wrestle with that one again.
