hi all.
i have installed a radio/cd player, amps, speakers.
i get alot of noise/static right before my cell phone rings or anybody else with a cell phone sitting close in city traffic.
what gives? its very loud and annoying.

    Try a "ground loop isolator". Cost $20 if it works. You can install it right on your amp in the parking lot. If not the solution most any 12v dealer will just put it back in to stock... I would.

    Try it with your cell phone beside your computer.

    Has to do with interference between the radio frequency of the cell phone ring signal and some part of the radio circuitry. I usually consider a sort of heads-up that a call is coming in, helpful when other noises are loud.

    Probably some kind of shielding on the car radio wiring might help, I don't really know. See if it happens when you leave the phone on the passenger seat.

    Pretty much standard fare. Doesn't do it in my 240 as much as it did in my 740. Solution is to not use the phone in the car... ;-)

        Hey the accord is stock? The volvo aftermarket? Installers are sensitive to this problem as it generates expensive callbacks. Older systems and cabling were not designed with 800 much less 1900 mhz portable transmitters to defend against. I think only a savvy auto sound guy will know how to shield, where to apply ferrite cores, and whether to even expect results. He'll figure this out on your system by progressively suppressing low level audio signals until the interference disappears along with the desired music. Then he'll come up with a filter to allow the music through and stop the RF from getting in. Might be as simple as eliminating a ground loop - that is a shared audio return path. Gotta make friends with an auto sound geek.
