Rear Shock and Spring combo 200 1989

Hi everyone. New here, but not to sweedish bricks. Anyway here is my query.

Its a 1989 240 GL. The rear end is saggy and it still has original shocks.
Need an upgrade. My thought is 2 "husky" brand rear variable rate springs paired with 2 KYB Gas Adgust shocks. I'm looking for a "tight" ride.
Possible overload springs instead of variable rate.

All thoughts and suggested combo's are welcome.

Thanks folks.
Here is a photo of my $800 beauty.

I was /am very happy with my IPD Overload springs. I really don't experience a harsh ride.

I am thinking as the others. If you have more then 150K miles on your Trailing arm bushings, I'm betting they are the real cause of your sag.

Any Clunking sounds from the rear end on slow acceleration or going over bumps slowly? That be another symptom ofTrailing Arm Bushings.

Clean looking car. $800 nice going

I inspected the trailing arm bushings (TABs). They are in great shape. When I press down on the rear of the car it can be pressed down several inches with minimal effort. Thus my thinking about new springs. There are no clunks or anything of the kind from the rear when driving. Also, the rear shocks don't seem to make that pressurized "whoosh" sound on rebound.
I am pretty sure I am going with the KYB Gas A Just shocks. Just not sure about the springs.

Heres a pic of the super clean motor.

It looks like you don't have the under-engine protective pan, as I can see (what I think is) your driveway...

I would use the variable rate springs, not wagon springs. Personally I like the ride of KYBs on our 245, but many people complain about them being too stiff. Personally I find them just right, but perhaps the extra weight of a wagon makes the difference.

Almost nobody complains about their Boge or Sachs 240 shock absorbers, so perhaps that would be a way to go.

Unless you are towing or otherwise carrying heavy loads I see no reason to go with stiffer springs like IPD likes to advertise!

Its not the springs, its the TABs as BC says. If you insist, 245 (wagon) springs are the cure. KYB rears are stiff, without rebound control ("pointlessly harsh") unless they are improved in recent years. HD Bils or lesser Boges for sure.

I've already inspected the TAB's, and they are almost perfect. So I know its got to be the springs. Wagon springs may help? Stock or overload wagon springs?
      Thanks again.

If you have not already done so, check the condition of all the rear suspension bushings. Worn out trailing arm bushings are notorious for letting the rear end sag. Other bushings effect handling, as do the TABs. Correct any problems there, then see how she sits and rides.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Go progressive springs on a sedan.
My overloads are real jumpy over speedbumps unloaded.
    Looks real sweet!

heres another photo of it from the rear.
Strangely, the left side sags more then the right. I've seen this on a few 200's. Any reason for this?

Thanks for any and all combo suggestions.

Even the drivers weight takes its toll over time.
      Forgot: KYB's are plenty stiff.
