Carb linkage questions 444-544

Hey all,
I've recently gotten back into working on my car - been distracted with other priorities for a while. The last couple nights I've been gathering up the linkage parts, heat shield, carbs, etc., to finish assembling the intake system. I've noticed some anomolies I'd like to discuss.

First off, this car is a bitsa. I purchased it fully disassembled with all the parts in boxes - it's been a challange. The engine that came with it was a B-18D (I think) with the one piece cast iron intake/dual exhaust with the secondary butterflies. The carbs that came with it were HS-6s, but the type that use 3 bolts to hold on the air cleaners. The heat shield I have is a one-piece affair similar to the one commonly seen on cars with the aluminum intake manifold, but this one was clearly made to fit the cast iron manifold. The present engine is a B-20F from a '75 240, but I'm using all the intake components that came with the car. All that seems to fit up just fine, but I'm noticing some inconsistancies wih the linkage.

The fore/aft throttle shaft support bracket (manifold end) that I have is different than the one used on the aluminum manifold, but it's clear that it is the correct bracket for the cast iron manifold. There is a bracket welded onto the firewall that accepts another bracket to support the aft end of the throttle shaft; that second bracket is oriented vertically when bolted onto the firewall bracket. But when all is asssembled, the fore/aft shaft is crooked and misaligned to the two support brackets. I temporarily removed the lower bolt from the rear support and tilted it outboard about a half inch to align the fore/aft shaft. In addition, it doesn't look like the link rod from the fore/aft shaft to the carbs is going to fit up correctly.

I ran out of time last night (World Series, you know!) to investigate this further, but it seems that the problem lies with the manifold end support bracket. If it were designed to position the fore/aft shaft about a half inch inboard, the firewall bracket could go back to it's correct position, and the link rod could be longer & have better leverage on the carbs. Another possibility is that I have the motor mounts mixed up, positioning the engine too far to the R/H side of the engine bay. I kinda doubt the latter though because the bell housing seems correctly positioned within the firewall.

If anybody has this style manifold on their PV, I would surely appreciate your insight and/or detail pictures of your linkage from firewall to carbs. Also, the info on the motor mount brackets would be appreciated, if only for a sanity check.

Thanks for your help,
