YES! I FIXED THE '88 244 200 1988

Cleaning out the corrosion on the contacts inside the fuel pump relay worked as my 88 244 fired right up without ANY hesitation! All I have to do is have a hood hinge from a boneyard ordered to me tomrrow and the car will be good to go! Unfortunately I still can't find the electrical problem with my '87...However I have it narrowed down to the stupid air siren that the previous owner had installed on the car. Apparently there's 12 volts running directly to the siren even with the battery off. I cut the wires that connect the siren to the battery as I thought maybe the horn was hard-wired into the battery, but it's still getting 12 volts. Thus somewhere deep within the bowls of my engine, the siren is still somehow getting power and it's going to be A LOT of work as the wires are wedged deep down between the rear part of the engine and firewall...I'm just going to sell this car and get a better 240 up here once I have the money. Until then I can enjoy driving my M-47II 5 speed :)

Horse Trader! Now you are getting it!
Tug on that wire follow it back.
Hinges are easy,get some help.
Don't get angry, it precludes rational thought.
Forgive your Mom,you can pick your friends,
but your family picked you.
Keep up the good work.

It's not unusual.... 200 1988

You pulled the battery ("...even with the battery off...")? This isn't surprising then, as evidently the siren is part of an alarm system. And if I was installing an alarm, I'd want it to be independent of the battery, too (so a guy couldn't disable the alarm by pulling the battery connections) -- make the thief unable to quickly stop the noise, and he'll walk away.

Somewhere, there's a backup battery -- look for that.

Ken:

Hadn't thought about that one! If the "backup" battery is shorted/shorting, it will definitely suck the main battery dry. Also, if the electronics for the alarm have failed, they can also suck the battery into oblivion.

Best "guesses" as to where a backup battery and or alarm module might be is behind the glove box, or under the seat(s). Check behind the glove box first
