rear window defroster wiring 200 1986

I recently purchased a 86 240 DL with only 70K miles and it has treated me well. The rear window defroster has never worked and its starting to get cold. The fuse is OK so I got another switch from the junkyard. After removing mine I noticed that only one wire was connected, its white with a red stripe. I don't have the book so could someone tell me what wires are supposed to be connected? The switch has 4 posts, 2 for the light.

I'm assuming this activates a relay that stays on for about 15 minutes... Thanks.

Hey, nice name.

As far as I know, the relay is in the switch. If only one wire's connected, that would sure do it. I think the other is yellow.

If you have the Bentley or Haynes book, it should be visible on the wiring diagrams. I have both; if you can't find it email me and I'll tell you what's supposed to be on there.

Most of the problems with these are related to tailgate hinge wiring harnesses. SOunds like your may be a different problem. Inspect your hinges though, and see if any wires are broken.

If so, it's possible someone even removed the wire intentionally, due to bad wiring in back. This would prevent a wire from grounsing out and blowing a fuse.

Good luck with it!
