Sunroof track questions S90-V90

I've noticed in the past that the plastic track guide for the sunroof window had some cracks. Well yesterday, I went to the carwash and water started leaking in through the sunroof. I got out, and the galss was not flush with the roofline. I pushed the button to close the roof, and it started making all these horrible cracking noises. I pulled back the sunroof shade and saw pieces of that broken track everywhere. Some of them were blocking the track, and others were just laying around up there. I took out a little swiss army knife and cleared the pieces off the track. The window opens and closes fine now.

What's my next course of action? How hard is it to replace that plastic track liner? Or can I just live without it?

Thanks!

Hello, Just live without it and use a good grease to lube where the plastic was. You will have years of service without those plastic track guides. You may need to adjust your window up just a bit, quite easy just 4 screws on both left and right sides of the glass. Just remove the little black trim pieces.

What kind of grease are you using? I want something oderless since this will be inside the driver's area. And something that won't get all runny on warm days.

Same thing happened to me. Based on previous info I was expecting it to happen and decided I liked using the SR enough to get it fixed. $750 to repair as predicted.

I've had the tracks replaced 2x by the dealer, and they have broken yet again. I had removed the pieces several years ago and the sunroof seems to still work just fine without them.

I replaced the guides on my 96 960 about 2 years ago. It has started cracking again and a couple pieces have fallen out. As long as the pieces are removed to prevent binding I've not had any problems either. As I recall the kit was about $60 from the dealer and I did it without a manual in about 4 hours. I did the job from the top and only replaced the forward end of the guide track.

thanks for the advice. I might look into that once we get out of this apartment complex, and my tools come out of storage.
