Removing intake manifold, replacing engine wiring harness 200 1984

I've almost got the courage to replace the engine wiring harness. I've read the advice posted online, I've practiced on a car in the Pull-A-Part, I've even collected extra nuts and bolts in the event I loose one or all in the process.

I'm left with two questions:

1) In the Bentley book, it recommends draining the coolant system before removing the intake manifold. Is this necessary on my '84 245? I don't see where coolant could leak out once the intake manifold is removed.

2) How to identify which connector goes to which fuel injector? Does it matter? All four have the same yellow/red and white/green wires and are roughly the same length.

Thanks!

Hi,

No need to drain the cooling system unless you want to replace the heater hoses while you're in there. It's much easier to replace them with the intake manifold removed. Also, just unbolt the manifold and pull it back by the driver's side strut tower. No need to completely remove it.

There's no special way to reconnect the fuel injector wire plugs. They're batch fire so it doesn't matter.

Good luck.
Dave

The Bentley's mention of coolant in the manifold comes from the few carbureted versions of the 240 which aren't covered anyway. Just leads you astray. No need to dump coolant.

The injectors are all on the same two wires - you can plug any one that reaches reasonably. No need to sort them out. But make sure you don't mix up the idle air 3-pin with the throttle switch 3-pin.
