Does anyone on the board own a blue mid-80's GL in Fredericksburg VA? I saw one parked at the University of Mary Washington today and was blown away by how pristine it was - uncracked dash, perfect leather interior, nearly rash-free coronas, shiney and clean, all hubcaps present and beautiful! Good paint, good rubber, good greif! what an amazing example of a mid-80's 244.
I had to leave a note, I could have gone on for pages complimenting the thing. It's either been garaged and babied it's entire life or it is the result of some hard restoration work.
Would love to know who it belongs to.

Saw the GL at school again today - still beautiful only this time I saw two attractive young blondes get out. I was so surprised I didn't even flag them down to talk.

Got a note on the windshield today from the attractive girl who owns the blue GL. Apparently she does appreciate Volvos and returned the compliment, noting, however, that while my '93 is really nice, it's no '84 GL.
LOL! Good stuff, glad to see a chica that appreciates somthing other than a Honda with a giant wing.
Makes me feel a bit inadequate though - here I am with a 240 9 years younger that's nowhere near the equal of this '84. Maybe it's just my owner's eye that picks out the little imperfections in my own car, ignoring those of others. But the fact remains, this girl - well, someone - has kept a set of coronas looking nearly new for 22 years. That's determination!
I've spied two more 240's sitting around campus, I may have to tag them too and see if I can get a mini Volvo club going at the university.

haha,
daddy fixed the volvo up real good. They prolly laughed when you left that note - young attractive girls, in most cases, have zero interest in cars.
"I was so surprised I didn't even flag them down to talk."
next time have a good volvo pick up line prepared.

Already have a girlfriend, but if I didn't you can believe I would have gone after those two that got out of the GL.
Still blows my mind, the first thing I thought when I saw it was, "Hey, maybe I can sell them some parts from the GL I got sitting in my driveway" until I realized that NOTHING on the rust bucket in my driveway would come near to improving that pristine '84.
Wild stuff...I wouldn't have expected to see one so nice outside of a Volvo show.

Still looking for that blue 244 - left a message under the wiper letting the owner know I was "scorron" on Brickboard.com. Is it possible that someone that has kept their 240 so perfect doesn't know of the Brickboard? Or is the owner just too busy with classes?

If the Blue 240 hasn't moved in awhile, yell into the rocker panels and see if the owner fell in while sitting on the hood.
That composted goo in yours, could have been the previous owner!

It's funny that you mention the nice 244. I'm in New Haven and Yale students are filtering back in. There have been a few really, really nice 240's here in the last few days.
My suspicion is that the Dad's are taking care of these cars...and probably should feel bad about letting their son's or daughter's leave home with some beauties being parked in the streets.
Case in point: I was working on my wagon, and happened to see a cute girl in an 89 244, gray..really nice. Only thing was, she was holding an unstrapped mattress and box spring on the roof without any straps! She had her arm out the drivers window and her friend had her hand out the passenger side. Yalies!
They stopped in front of my garage because the thing was sliding all over the place. Plus, I had to chat with them for a couple reasons: 1) They were gonna kill someone 2) cause they were cute 3) I had to check out the car.
Best part. Her license plate was PUFF. No joke. PUFF. Dad's car that he let her use.
I gave her some ratchet straps and a nice soft cloth to put between the roof and the mattress.
She had already broken the sunroof fairing. Oops, sorry Dad.
Any girl driving a 240 with the license plate PUFF, is crush inducing. I'm smitten.

Greg, are you the original owner of that '84 245? How come it's got almost no miles on it?
As for me, I am the proud owner of a '96 850 with just 76k miles. Once the snow starts falling I do not take the car out of the garage and it remains dormant until early April. I wash it every other day whether it needs it or not and it still looks pristine!

Not the original owner, but I recently picked it up. It was owned by a guy who commuted to NYC by train and had it as a second car. Strange, a guy with 2 cars who takes the train. That's America!
Few bits of rust that I'm attacking now with POR-15. Hopefully I'll have her around for a while.
Keep that 96 clean! My car could have used a bit more attention in her younger days, but I'll make up for it in the next few months of restoration.
I don't know if the 850's are similar to 240's with the amount of crap that collects in the rocker panels, but if you have some extra time, pull up the carpets and take a look inside. Mine were gross...all better now!

Pfff, dude, my '93 had GOBS of crap in the rockers. Leaves, pine needles, composted goo, etc. Not to mention behind the center console, around the heater core.
I figure Volvo used dried leaves as insulation...yeah, that's it.
