Power steering leak 900 1992

My 940 is leaking power steering fluid. The smaller hose leaves the resevoir and then seems to turn into a bunch of smaller metal tubes that are bunched up around the frame. The leak seems to be in one of these tubes. The tubes in turn seem to be connected to some sort of a box. I had thought the hose would simply go to the power steering pump. How do I sort this out?

Thanks.

BTDT!

I had the same problem last winter-- the hard lines on the steering rack rust out and get pinhole leaks, which produce large volumes of fluid leaks when pressurized. The lines aren't cheap (~$60 apiece, there are two), and they can be a bear to get out if the fittings are badly corroded. Mine were bad enough that you couldn't tell that they were attached to the rack with a hex fitting, so I chickened out and took it to the local independent-- I wasn't going to mess with them in -10 weather on the concrete floor of my unheated garage...

Good luck!

That is interesting as there should only be three hoses in that whole system. One larger diameter hose that goes from the reservoir to the pump, the suction hose. One high pressure hose that goes from the pump to the rack and the return hose, it is the smaller diameter hose that goes up from the rack to the reservoir. Really pretty darn simple. Make sure that your two banjo bolt fittings are tight at the rack.
