An intermittant AC issue S90-V90

Oh yeah, gonna be the hottest day in MASS since 1974, so they say....

1997 960 Sedan with 128,000.

Sometimes when I run my AC unit it will not be too cold, although the fan motor is running strong, and then after anywheres from 2 to 15 minutes or so it will "kick in" per say and will really cool off the car.

Anyone have any suggestions and or assessments or whatever???

Thanks, Mike!

Hi Sully,

Does the compressor cycle normally and run when you call for A/C? Even when the air comeing out of the vents is not so cool?

Does it cool right away then get warm, then kick in again?

Several things come to mind:

Check for 'good' vacuum at the heater control valve on the firewall near the brake booster. Be sure it moves when it has vacuum.

Maybe the temp sensor in the plenum is at fault. I have not replaced one, but recently someone here posted the P/N and apparently it is easy to R & R on the plenum near the glove box. Suggest performing a search for more info on this.
