960 Left Front Stabilizer 900

I had the brick in for a checkup, and am told the left front stabilizer link is broken, and the bushing on the right one is weak. Is this the stabilizer bar?? How serious is this for me over a few days till I can get it done? All thoughts welcome.

Not serious. The bushings are cheap and the stabilizer link is relatively easy to install. You don't even need to jack up the car. IMO the bushings are tougher to install than the links. I recommend buying the OE link (not Scan Tech brand), install it yourself and just monitor the bushings. If you can rattle the stabilizer bar in the bushings then replace them, if not, pass.

Thanks for the reply. I checked my Chilton's and other manual for a picture of the stabilzer, but couldn't find one. Is the the sway bar the stabilizer link? For after market, what brands are best for the links/bars, and bushings, and where can I find a good description on how to diy? Appreciate the help.

Your messages don't say what year your 960 is. On 95 & up the sway bar is attached to the front struts via the sway bar link. Just turn the leading edge of the front wheel out on the side you want to replace and get 2 proper sized wrenches and have at it. You don't need to raise the car or take off the tire but you might find it easier to remove the tire. The nuts need to be tighened to 37 ft. lbs. (both).

Thanks, I have a 95 960 sedan. Do you know of any on line picture source? The manuals I have do not even list the stabilizer link.

The only 'online' source for your 95 that I know of is AllData. It is subscription based.

The following link points to a 94 front suspension but the 95 & up are different. http://caunter.ca/volvo960/bm14842.pdf

You really do not need a manual to replace the link. Buy the part, and take a look at the front suspension. You'll see it. It attaches the sway bar to the strut. There are no special tricks needed to replace it other than what already has been stated.
