Gas smell but no leak at tank 700 1991

Hi,

91-740 turbo wgn, 5sp.
The problem is a strong smell of raw gas. The smell occurs constistantly after the car has been driven then stopped (idling or shut off. After sitting for 5-10 mintues the smell is gone. The smell doesn't occur while driving faster than idle.
I can park it in my garage & not have a gas smell when I check the next day.
There is no liquid leak at all. I've been under, over & all around the car. I installed new injectors seals. The smell doesn't come from the gas cap area. Smell is the same pre & post fuel fillup. There is no gas smell under the hood. There is no smell of gas inside the car. The smell is worse w/ the front windows down.
The fuel mileage is un changed & the tailpipe is clean, no sign of carbon at all.
The smell is getting stronger.

What happens when the carbon vapor canister (gas vapor trap)plugs? Anti-roll over valve problem?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks

I just had my filler neck repaired for the same reason. The metal filler pipe tube that sticks out of the tank flange cracked. So fuel would leak or slosh out. Eventually the leak was large enough that it did drip when parked. The undercoat on the bottom of the car disappeared and some deposited on the rear of the car. Wee! This apparently is not an uncommon problem.

Thanks I'll do a closer crawl by. If any leakage it should be wet somewhere.
