1986 245DL overdrive/rear defrost short? 200 1986

Today my husband turned on the rear defrost of our 1986 245 DL, and the overdrive light came on. Has anyone experienced this before? My husband is pretty good with electronics and does have a good voltmeter. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks.-volvochick 245/855

My money is on a short in the tailgate wiring harness-- it is likely that the wire for the rear defroster broke where it flexes in the hinge and shorted out. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me here at work, but I'd bet that it took out the fuse that feeds both.

The harnesses are available for a reasonable price at FCPgroton.com.
