Floyd:

Are you asking about the Vinyl coverings or the suspension under the seatcushion?

I'm not sure but I believe recovering kits are available(?)...but if the later, I recommend a metal and spring suspension (it's forever!) like this:

...to replace the dry Lasagna rubber bands in favor of Craig's Nylon webbing fix...once his nylon webbing stretches, it doesn't have much compliance...which is kindof nice to have in a seat...Craig may not realize it, but he's supporting his Chiropracter!

Try www.vp-autoparts.com. or buy an old black Singer on e-Bay and tackle the job yourself. ;-)

Hi Floyd,

If you are talking about the webbing, this can be done for about $5 worth of 2" nylon webbing (sewing supply store, outdoor outfitter etc.). I did this last year in an evening and now my wife can see over the dash! Anyway, to do the job I measured out the old webbing and cut a little less than that (can't recall exacly how much). I then made some aluminum reinforcing plates to put the rivets through and secure the ends of the nylon to the seat. I had some 10 ga aluminum around (steel will also work), cut into strips and attached on either side of the nylon. Then drill (punch is better) 2 holes through each reinforcing strip (1/8 if using 1/8 rivets). I then put the soldering iron on and used the hot tip to "drill" the holes in the nylon using the reinforcing plates as guides. Rivet all the parts together and re web the seats...good for another 40 years (and I'm more than portly enough to ensure that this is very strong).

Craig
