v-6 conversion 200 1980

Hello everyone,

So I am in the midst of doing a v-6 conversion to a 4 cyl (as per earlier post no-one needs any parts from the v-6??? lol) and I have the v-6 out and the four cyl is 30 minutes from being in, but my question is relating to fuel delivery, will i have to by pass the high pressure main fuel pump or is there a pressure regulator on the engine pump that will not allow the engine to flood. Also, if anyone has done one of these conversions and has any other tips for me that would be awesome.

Thanks all

If it's a B21A (carbureted) then yes, bypass it. In fact you don't need the tank pump either - the original B21A setup uses neither, the tank unit pickup is a pipe not a pump, and from there it's a straight steel fuel line up to the engine, where a rubber hose joins it to the mechanical fuel pump. Best to remove those pumps entirely and pull the fuel pump relay, I'd say. Ideally use a B21A tank unit. You'll have to pull the tank unit anyhow to take out the pump and extend the pickup tube down, also you'd need to plug off the return line, it'll be easier just to drop in the other one if you have it on hand.

If you are scraping out the fuel system from your V-6, I could use it, including the tank pump. Infact let me know what parts you have left as I am building another PRV engine for my delorean and all your bits will work.

Why dont you send me an email to binlade@hotmail.com or give me a call (250) 686-2316, I have an entire engine sitting out, tranny as well (i'm pretty sure that won't go into your delorean, and by the way do you have an extra delorean cause i would be very interested) give me a call and tell me what you need and i will be able to answer.

I should have been more specific, I am goin from a fuel injected 1980 6 cyl (GLE) to a carburated 4 cyl with a weber carb. So what you're sayin is that i will need to even take out the in tank pump as well. I didn't expect that but...

If you are going from a B27/28 with CI to a B21/23 with CI it should not be an issue. The fit detail from Worldpac shows the same number pump for either one of those cars regardless of engine. The LPR (line pressure regulator)is built right into the fuel head on both of those engines and so long as you do not mess with it the pressure should be ok. The pressure can be adjusted via shims in the LPR valve but I have never found one that was off enough to justify messing with it.

I should have been more specific, I am goin from a 1980 f.i v-6 (gle) to a 1983 carburated 4-cyl with a weber carb. Does that change the story????
