I found out what that thing on my diff. cover is on my 84GL 200

I called my local volvo mechanic and he told me that that thing is a sensor for the electronic speedometer but also apparently they (the sensor) were put on pre-86 cars for the yellow/orange upshift arrow light on your instrument cluster. The mystery is solved. Thought some of you might like to know.

Well I learned something. A reasonable explanation anyway.

Damn we just junked a 84 244T- should have looked at it a little closer.

From the diagrams, it seems the sensor and shift indicator started with the '84, with the electronic speedo coming a bit later, in the '86.

Dang it, Bruce.
Just the other day I oh so authoritatively stated that '86 was the first year for the shift indicator only to have to correct myself when someone replied that their '85 had this feature. And now I find that it was really '84. Live and learn, I guess.
