Great to have you on board!I bought my 94 940T with 56K about 7-8 years ago.Now have 170K and it still runs great.Slow oil leak from rear main seal has been only annoying problem for past couple years.Shocks are original-still rides well, passes bounce test.I have replaced the cone-shaped bushings,FPR,the radiator and brakes-still on second set of front rotors.Estimate total cost of repairs at $2000 over last 7 years. This forum has been an invaluable tool in maintaining my Volvos-the previous 87 740T (bought with 67K,sold with 213K to a guy from Detroit who drove it back home from Atlanta),the 940 and our '98 V90.
    Happy rolling!

Welcome to the club! You're going to love that thing.
My '93 940 turbo is my favourite for driving. If you live where it snows, next winter buy a full set of Nokian snow tires and with that automatic locking differential, you will be able to go where 4x4 suv's can only dream of.

Sounds like the maintnence has been kept up on the thing.
It should get good fuel milage if you can keep your foot out of it ( not easy to do the first few months with that turbo... it's just to darn much fun :-)

    Welcome to the club!

Give IPD a call - 1-800-444-6473 (time zone = PST), ask for a catalog. You’ll learn a lot just by flipping through it.

    Their website is: www.ipdusa.com
A couple other good sites that I’ve used are:
    www.fcpgroton.com and www.vlvworld.com

When shopping for your new exhaust keep in mind that your engine is a B230FT (non-turbos are B230F) and your car does not have independent rear suspension (IRS). The exhaust systems are different for turbo and non-turbo models. I just put a new exhaust on my ’93 945T last November, not too hard. I went with IPD’s sport exhaust and am generally happy with it but if you are just looking for a good exhaust I’d recommend the system from fcpgroton. You may want to go ahead and replace your catalytic converter at the same time.

As for the lens, if you find a cheap place to buy lens covers let me know, I’m missing several.

What radio is in there? If you have the stock cassette, you can put in an aftermarket 1-din radio quite easily, that was the first thing I did when I got my car a couple years ago.

Be sure to check out the 700/900 FAQ, will answer pretty much any question you have. You can pick up a Haynes manual made for England for your car if you want (~ $30), has come in handy for me but the FAQ is much more useful.

And another way to refer to your car is to call it a 945T, the "94" means "940" and the "5" means its a station wagon (I think because it has 5 doors), and "T" for turbo of course.

Currently driving a 91 745t, which is basically a 945, that just turned 247k on our 5 1/2 hour round trip to Mohegan Sun and back home. Bought this one owner car a year and a half ago w/235k on it. I have owned too many 2 7 and 9 series cars to keep track of. 150 plus over the years. I still cannot get enough of these cars, found a 93 944 n/a w/106k for my wife a couple of months back and currently working on getting a 90 744GLE w/180k.... should be available for sale soon... Also selling my wifes 89 244 she has had for the last 4 years, 170k and in nice shape if anyone is interested. $1,300. takes it home.... Welcome to the Volvo fold, new owners always welcome...Tom Wasney 27940aholic

Goodluck. I have a 93 turbo wagon with 140k miles. We bought ours 6yrs ago with 65k miles and its been the best car Iv ever owned overall. Compared to the 2000 V70XC AWD SE--nite and day as far as maintenance/repairs. You made a good choice if you wanted a volvo--in my opinion.

Hi Joe, best of luck with your new Volvo. I hope you enjoy it as much a I have enjoyed the last 2 years with my '94 945T. I had wanted to buy a Volvo since 1981.
